I AM DELIGHTED, as Chief Executive of British Showjumping, to be welcoming each and every one of you to the 72nd edition of Horse of the Year Show.
As a highlight of the equestrian calendar, it is a remarkable achievement for all those who have qualified to compete here. We can expect to see some superb competition from the very best of British Showjumping talent. alongside a varied programme of events including showing championships, entertainment and equestrian displays.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our British Showjumping members and wish all those who have qualified the very best of luck. In acknowledging those that are competing here, I would also like to recognise the incredible owners, riders, breeders, grooms, sponsors, coaches, volunteers, officials and many others who support the qualifiers and accredited shows throughout the season.
Horse of the Year Show is a wonderful celebration of our great sport. attracting a diverse audience to watch various national championships alongside the international classes culminating in Sunday evening's Grand Prix and finale. This year, it is wonderful to see so many up-and-coming riders competing on the senior international stage with great success. I am delighted that Horse of the Year Show is continuing to acknowledge and encourage the young showjumping talent at this level with the introduction of the Leading Under 25 Rider trophy in memory of Paddy McMahon.
Over the next five days, tens-of-thousands of people will be welcomed to the show - a demonstration of the robust health of the equestrian economy. Whether you are an aspiring competitor, a seasoned expert or an inquisitive newcomer, you will find plenty to entertain and engage you here at HOYS. I wish you all a successful and enjoyable visit to the 2022 Show for what will undoubtedly be an incredible showcase of equestrian excellence.

The Horse of the Year Show is truly The Show of Champions, and it gives me enormous pleasure to welcome you to this, the 72nd Celebration of The Horse. Competitors have travelled the length and breadth of the country (some even further) just to qualify for the opportunity to compete. Once here the unique arenas, echoing the cheers of spectators, provide the perfect stage to demonstrate the very best of equestrian sport and entertainment. For many who win, it's the culmination of their sporting ambition. A special shout-out to the large team of volunteers for their help in the smooth running of HOYS. To them, and all those who visit the show in whatever capacity, thank you for joining us, thank you for your support - it's what makes the Horse of the Year Show such a truly remarkable show.
